Planning Ahead for Rightsizing

Some people spend years dreaming of their lives in retirement, with vivid pictures in their heads. Others have more uncertainty surrounding their hopes for the next stage. One critical piece of the picture is figuring out whether to stay in your current home or move to one that will better suit you. A recent Raymond James Point of View piece entitled, "Rightsizing Your Home for Retirement" outlined some of the considerations when thinking about the size of your next home. The article does a great job of presenting the mindset and personal choices that factor into the equation, "There are some who prefer the freedom and convenience of living simply in a cozier home, whereas others still relish the prestige of a larger place." It points out that additional factors - such as multi-generational family situations or the need for mortgage-free living - can also play a role.

If your retirement plans include thinking about a move, it's often beneficial to start planning several months (or even a year) before it's time to put your current house on the market.

At Hayden Rowe Properties, we are committed to guiding our clients through the entire process of a move. For people approaching retirement, that process can involve a few steps before walking into that first open house. We recommend beginning with a market analysis of your home. This will give you a good idea of a likely sale price in the current real estate environment. Our real estate agents can also help you understand what home improvements would help maximize your sale price potential. We can also assist in piecing together your lifestyle needs and preferences for your ideal next home.

Whether you plan to "smart-size," buy big or are unsure, Hayden Rowe properties provide the guidance and experience you need to take this next step into retirement living.
